Liposuction

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves the removal of body fat via a suctioning mechanism. Even though the procedure sucks away pockets of unwanted fat from hard-to-lose areas, it isn’t intended to help you lose weight. Instead, it helps you achieve your desired body shape by refining your curves.

For ideal results, you can combine the treatment with skin-tightening procedures, face-lifts, or other plastic surgeries.

What is a liposuction procedure like?

Depending on the part of your body that you’re targeting with liposuction, Dr. Garcia either gives you local anesthesia to numb the specific area or general anesthesia to put you to sleep. He makes a small incision in your targeted area and loosens the fat beneath your skin with a tube-like instrument.

Next, Dr. Garcia attaches a syringe or surgical vacuum to the outside end of the tube to suction out the loosened fat. You’ll likely experience some swelling after the procedure, but once it subsides, you’ll see the full effect right away.

What areas of my body can I target with liposuction?

You can get liposuction on any area of your body that accumulates excess fat that isn’t easy to lose, even if you live a healthy and active lifestyle. Dr. Garcia often performs liposuction on patients’:

  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Calves
  • Ankles
  • Breasts
  • Back
  • Upper arms
  • Neck

The reduction in the size of your treated areas is permanent as long as you continue to eat nutritiously and exercise regularly. It’s important to realize that you won’t see a reduction in cellulite after liposuction, but Dr. Garcia can guide you to other treatments to reduce them.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

To make sure that you’ll tolerate the procedure well, Dr. Garcia thoroughly evaluates your health and goals during a consultation.

Liposuction might be right for you if you:

  • Are close to your ideal weight
  • Have tight skin
  • Have some muscle tone
  • Don’t smoke
  • Are generally in good health
  • Have a positive outlook
  • Are seeking aesthetic procedures for your own satisfaction, not someone else’s

You must also be committed to carrying out a healthy lifestyle after your procedure. This ensures long-lasting results and a smooth recovery.

If you’re unsatisfied with the shape of your body and want to explore the possibilities of liposuction, call Plastic Surgery Arts Center or book your appointment online today.
