Face Lift Q & A

What is a face-lift?

faceliftA face-lift is a surgical procedure that helps tighten sagging skin, lift facial features, and create an overall more youthful appearance. It’s a great option for men and women who want a dramatic improvement in facial contouring.

Long gone are the days when a face-lift created an overly stretched, unnatural-looking final product. Today’s face-lift techniques help you appear refreshed and renewed, but never overly “done” or plastic.

Like many cosmetic surgical procedures, your face-lift is customized to address your specific treatment needs and goals. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all face-lift procedure.

What are some issues a face-lift can correct?

faceliftA face-lift is a great choice if you want to tighten your skin and lift sagging areas of your face and jawline. This procedure can create noticeable improvements in your cheeks, since this is a relatively large area of your face.

By lifting and tightening your skin, a face-lift can dramatically improve sagging skin at your jawline, which is sometimes referred to as jowls. The procedure can also lift and tighten the folds of skin that develop along the sides of your nose, running down to the corners of your mouth, or from the corners of your mouth to your chin.

What are the steps in getting a face-lift?

faceliftYour face-lift is performed with anesthesia, so you won’t feel a thing from start to finish. Once you’re resting comfortably, Dr. Garcia creates an incision to gain access to your facial tissues. The most common face-lift technique uses an incision that starts in your hairline near your temples and then continues around your ear, ending at your lower scalp.

He then carefully removes excess fat and other tissue or repositions tissue to enhance contouring in other areas of your face. Muscle tissue can also be lifted and tightened to improve the shape of your face.

Once he’s happy with the renewed contouring, Dr. Garcia re-drapes your skin and trims away any excess before closing the incisions. You might also choose a mini lift, which uses smaller incisions and alters less tissue than a traditional face-lift.
