Botox & Fillers

What’s the difference between Botox and fillers?

You may often hear Botox® and fillers in the same sentence, but they’re completely different products that serve separate purposes.

Botox and Xeomin®, a similar product, are injectable drugs that use a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin to stop your nerve signals from telling your muscles to move. Many patients get these injections to relieve them of moderate to severe facial wrinkles, like frown lines.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are injections of a semiliquid substance that provides artificial volume to your face, neck, or hands. Fillers often diminish the signs of wrinkles, too, but in a different way than Botox and similar products.

At Plastic Surgery Arts Center, you can choose between fat recycling (of your own fat), Juvederm®, Restylane® Radiesse® and others. Juvederm and Restylane are both fillers that use hyaluronic acid, a hydrating substance that already occurs in your body. Radiesse uses an ingredient called calcium hydroxylapatite that helps your skin produce structural collagen fibers.

How can Botox and fillers change my appearance?

There are many adjustments that Botox products and fillers can make to your appearance to make you look a bit younger and rejuvenated.

Botox products can reduce:

  • Frown lines between your brows
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Wrinkles around your mouth

Dermal fillers and fat recycling can:

  • Reduce some wrinkles
  • Volumize your cheeks
  • Volumize your hands
  • Plump or reshape your lips
  • Soften the appearance of scars

Dr. Garcia helps you identify the age-related features that affect you the most in order to choose between Botox and fillers. You can also get both types of injections to target different areas.

What can I expect after my Botox and filler injections?

Botox and fillers are both known to cause a few mild side effects, like redness and swelling. Thankfully, you can still get back to your day as usual after your appointment, with little or no recovery time.

You’ll see the full results of your injections several days after your appointment. Botox results last between three and six months, while fillers last as long as a year.
