Saying Goodbye to Unwanted Tattoos Is Easier than Ever

You were in the moment and wanted to mark the occasion in a permanent way with a tattoo. Fast forward a few years, with the moment long gone, and you may feel quite differently about your ink. Luckily, we offer innovative laser technology that can clear away your tattoo, restoring your skin to a blank canvas.

At Plastic Surgery Arts Center, plastic surgeon Dr. Jan Garcia, Jr. and our team offer a wide range of services that help our clients in Webster, Texas, achieve their cosmetic goals. While our name suggests that our treatments are surgical, we also offer state-of-the-art laser services that tackle everything from unwanted body hair to tattoo removal.

Here’s a look at why saying goodbye to unwanted tattoos is easier than ever.

Out with the old

About 1 in 3 people in the United States has a tattoo, and a full quarter of these inked individuals regret their decisions. Making the regret even more bitter, it used to be that tattoo removal could only be accomplished through surgery, which was a painful and risky proposition.

Now, thanks to emerging laser technologies, we have a noninvasive way to remove unwanted ink without breaking the surface of your skin.

The power of light

The technology we use is called a q-switched laser, which delivers intense pulses of light into the pigment in the tattoo to break it apart. These pulses travel through the outer layer of your skin to target the pigment beneath the surface, without damaging your skin.

Once the burst of light shatters the pigment, breaking it into tiny pieces, your body naturally flushes away the debris over time.

A clear road ahead

Our laser tattoo removal requires a series of treatments, and how many depends on several factors, such as:

The light energy is most easily absorbed by black ink, so single-colored, black tattoos are often easiest to remove. If you have reds or purples, these are tougher and require more passes with the laser. As well, if your tattoo is relatively new, it’s easier for us to remove it since the ink hasn’t settled into your skin. If, however, your tattoo was a folly from long ago, you’ll likely need more treatments.

The bottom line is that your timeline depends upon the above factors, so it’s impossible to say how many treatments you’ll need. When you come in, we sit down with you and review the tattoo, at which point we can give you a schedule of treatments.
